Maison D’ Memoire Bed & Breakfast Cottages

I love beautiful places and things. I live for peace, calm and tranquility. I gravitate towards things, that are both different and unique. While perusing the louisianatravel.com website, for a place to take my next near-cation (local, regional trips, visiting nearby cities and towns), I found ALL of those elements in a place called Maison D’ Memoire. Maison D’ Memoire is a 30 acre, private bed & breakfast, that offers cottages in the heart of Cajun Country near Lafayette (Rayne, La).

What makes this bed & breakfast so appealing, is that you get to stay in your own private cottage. You’re not limited to a room. The entire house is yours for your stay and they offer four (4) cottage options. I booked the Autumn Cottage. I thought it was so adorable, charming and cute, with ample space for everything I needed. Let me show you the rooms!

The Living Area

As you step into the living room, you’re transported back in time. The pictures that grace the walls, display its original charm. Beautiful antiques fill the room. I especially loved a white floral mirror, that graced one of its walls. I thought, what a pretty mirror to look into, each and every day. It will make you feel beautiful and put a smile on your face.

The Kitchen

Everything about the kitchen is so cute. I immediately gravitated to the table. The incoming sunlight from the window, highlighted the beauty of the fresh flowers and scalloped-edge tableware atop its wooden surface. The table’s positioning gives you the most beautiful outside view. It’s such a lovely area to eat & enjoy breakfast and lunch everyday.

Maison D’ Memoire uses a local caterer in their area to prepare meals and dessert for their guests. Upon making reservations, I requested a charcuterie board be made. It was securely wrapped and placed in the refrigerator prior to my arrival. It had a delicious and lovely assortment of crackers, cheeses, grapes, meat, pickles and strawberries. It’s just enough to tidy you over until dinner. Let me also recommend a pitcher of their freshly squeezed lemonade.

The innkeepers truly think of everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The refrigerator contained bottled water, juices, and packets of butter & grape jelly. The cabinets housed kcups of coffee & tea and packets of sugar & cream. There are utensils, plates, glassware and mugs. Pots and pans are limited. I brought a small frying pan to fry bacon and sausage. Bring a small container of dish washing liquid and a cloth to wash the dishes you use. I also brought a roll of paper towels, paper plates & bowls and a small pair of scissors. A couple of kitchen white garbage bags would also be handy, if staying longer than two days (the tall trash can may fill up quickly).

Stop and enjoy all the beautiful details that surround you! You will find a beautiful welcoming message with your name in a frame. Delight in the beautiful lace curtains displayed at each window. Transport yourself back in time to when bottleneck soda’s were commonplace, baskets were used for both display and gardening, and shadowboxes displayed.

Breakfast will be delivered to you every morning between 8-8:30am. Lyn is prompt with her deliveries! I was greeted at the door, by a local visitor my very first morning. Rayne, Louisiana is known as the frog capital of the world. I didn’t know about this important tidbit of information prior to my trip. It all makes sense now. That explains the cute frog statues that greeted me on the porch, in front of the house. It also explains the frog statue, that I encountered during my lovely walk of the property. Even though I usually do, this teaches me the importance of reading about an area prior to visiting.

Lyn, is an excellent cook! Her assortment of muffins each morning will have your taste buds in delight. I loved her variation of egg dishes. What also impressed me, were her notes. She greets you with positive messages and prayers, a delicious menu and even a weather report to prepare you for the day. Her personal touches truly impressed me.

The Bedroom

French doors lead you to a beautiful bedroom. It’s a lovely sanctuary filled with a gorgeous armoire that will house your accessories and clothes, a sitting bench, antique rocking chair (I have one at home, that my grandmother used to cradle me. I had it restored and truly cherish it), vintage bed and end tables w/lamps. There’s no television in the bedroom, but there is a lovely docking station that will play ambient sounds, tunes from your cell phone and the radio. It’s peaceful.

I must say, prior to my trip I was worried about the bed. I didn’t know if it would be so delicate that I would be scared to move. Well, I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy, stable and strong it is. It also has the most comfortable mattress, I have ever slept on. When you lie down, expect to drift into La La Land. Expect sweet dreams … sweet dreams indeed.

Do you like my robe? I love it. It’s from a store called plumprettysugar. If you like girly and pretty things, hold onto credit card while shopping this site. I’m usually not one to wear flowers. I stay in solids and keep things very minimal, but something appealed to me about this robe. The material is so soft, feels great against the skin and very enjoyable to wear.

Prior to your trip, treat yourself by ordering (add-on enhancement from the caterer) some chocolate dipped strawberries. They are absolutely delicious! If you can’t eat them all, put them in the refrigerator for another time. I also had them chill a bottle of wine. These beautiful keepsake glasses were part of the package. They were placed in this pretty gift bag w/tissue paper. If you love cake, the caterer can whip one up for you as well. You will want for nothing during your stay.

The Bathroom

Last but not least, is the absolutely adorable bathroom. The vintage claw-foot tub with its frilly & ruffled curtain is its centerpiece. It’s a girly-girl’s dream (and that I am)! I loved the bathroom’s display of flowers, charming bath pictures, and such. Its decor brings the outdoors in, but keeps the sanctuary prime for bathing. I truly enjoyed showering.

I couldn’t resist showing you my enthusiasm, showering in this beautiful tub. It was a delight!

Other treasures you’ll find in this bathroom, is this playful frog, a wonderful view of the surrounding area around the house, comfy waffle robes, makeup towels, extra towels (located in the cabinet), tissues and hand wash. See my delight!

The Four Cottages, Event Center and Private Lake at Maison D’ Memoire

There are four (4) cottage options available for your getaway pleasure. I took a little stroll, following its gravel road pathway to see these beautiful treasures. Some snapshots are below (and of course in my video below). I plan on going back. I want to stay in the Country Garden and Sweet Surrender Cottages. Some other amenities this gorgeous property offers is a private lake and event center for small events (such as baby and bridal showers).

Prejean’s Restaurant

Lyn suggested a number of local restaurants in the area. I first dined at Prejean’s Authentic Cajun Cuisine Restaurant. They are family-owned and have been in operation for over 40 years! They are very friendly, welcoming and nice. They offered to take my picture next to the alligator, but I told them a picture of the alligator was enough for me. They laughed! Their seafood gumbo is really good and I highly recommend their catfish. It’s AMAZING! Absolutely perfect!

Fezzo’s Restaurant

The following night, I went to Fezzo’s Cajun Seafood Restaurant. They have 3 locations (Broussard, Crowley and Scott). They are family-owned as well. I kept noticing these spools of thread throughout their decor. Well, it’s part of their story (shared with you below). If you dine here you MUST, MUST, MUST, get their charbroiled oysters. They are absolutely ah-mazing! I had Fezzo’s Oyster Rockefeller. I also had their fried catfish with crawfish etoufee (so delicious!).

Our (Fezzo’s Restaurant) Story

A long time ago when Phil’s father was a young boy in Church Point, Louisiana, he was very creative with his toys. His favorite toys were things he made with his mother’s empty wooden spools. In Cajun French, the word for these wooden spools is ‘Fezzo’. Everywhere he went he always had these spool toys with him, One day, the local postmaster began calling him Fezzo – a name he carried with him all his life.

In July 1979, Phil’s family opened a grocery store in Rayne, Louisiana and called it Fezzo’s Supermarket. In July 1999, twenty years to the month later, Phil and Pat opened their first restaurant. When it came time to decide on the name, it was clear. In honor of Phil’s dad, they named it Fezzo’s Seafood, Steakhouse, and Oyster Bar.

I was thoroughly impressed with my stay at Maison D’ Memoire Bed & Breakfast Cottages. They went above and beyond my expectations. I really enjoyed myself. It was a relaxing and restful trip. I loved all the personal attention I received. The restaurants had delicious food and were so nice. I can’t wait to return, explore more of their properties, visit some more great local restaurants and stores. I had a wonderful time. Be sure to explore other bed and breakfast retreats.
