Little Things, That Make Me Smile

What’s in your home, that makes you SMILE? This question can be answered many ways. It may be a person, such as your significant other, family member, child or pet. It could be a hobby, such as baking, cooking, gardening, painting, sewing or such. In today’s world of never-ending bad news on the local, state, national and international level, everyone needs something that can put a smile on their face. I incorporate things that make me smile, in each room of my home.

The room that puts the biggest smile on my face is my makeup room. It’s filled with both current and nostalgic treasures. It contains cards and gifts from fellow bloggers, scented perfumes, holiday items, movie paraphernalia, things I have collected through the years and makeup of course. No matter where I turn in that room, my heart skips a beat. I love it.

One item, I love looking at everyday is this beautiful pink, Moschino, three-tiered frosted cake. It’s actually an invitation from Jeremy Scott’s Fall 2020 Patisserie Moschino Ready-To-Wear Collection. No, unfortunately I’m not on Moschino’s fashion guest list. I simply lucked up and found this invitation on eBay. I thought it would be great to have, because I really liked the collection, I love birthday cake and the runway show actually took place on my birthday. They always say, someone’s trash is another person’s treasure. Someone actually didn’t want this! Here I am cherishing it, every single day.

If you haven’t noticed, either through my instagram feed or past posts on A Very Sweet Blog, I also have a penchant for robes (1,2,3) and foodie-themed pajamas (1,2). I love this pink waffle robe. I also have it in white. Both were inexpensive finds at Macy’s. Cost is immeasurable, when something brings you joy. I judge no one and what they will pay when it comes to that. Something that puts a smile on your face may be as little as FREE or have an exorbitant price tag. It’s the feeling you get within, that makes it worth it. Nothing beats that feeling you get.

Besides cake, I absolutely love cookies and cupcakes. I can WOOF a batch of cookies and cupcakes down so fast. However, I know eating a batch of anything is not good for me. Moderation is key. So how do I manage to keep my diet in check? Faux cookies and cupcakes are my answer. Instead of my mouth, I use my eyes. I purchased these cute Beauty Bakerie cookie compacts last year. Aren’t they adorable? They’re actually mirror compacts that contain false eyelashes. I don’t wear false eyelashes, but I’m always in need of a compact. So, this satisfies my sensory palette for wanting a cookie and helps in my makeup application when I’m away from home.

If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been on social media a lot lately. It’s been for a number of reasons. Here in New Orleans, crime is really bad. There are killings both day and night. When I turn on the news, I’m not only bombarded with what is happening in my city, but then you hear about mass shootings in various states. Internationally you see the despair on the elderly, young families and children in Ukraine. It can all be a bit much (overwhelming, as a matter of fact). I’ve been drowning myself in organization projects at my home, taking care of myself and attending events.

If you feel the same way, know that you are not alone. I think everything we as a society are going through can get to the strongest of people at times. It’s unfortunate. I encourage you to pray, have faith, keep positive people around you and help others however you can. Also, create your own happiness to give you some peace. It’s important to have an outlet.
